COURSE SUMMARY

Welcome to Design Skills for Natural Building: Planning the Elements of your Project. The components of this workshop are spread over one month, to allow time for lots of student design, plan research and mentor involvement and to take other classes that might be a nice addition to your educational purpose. In this summary we outline some online resources, classroom assignments, and general information about this workshop.

This workshop focuses on design, with the possibility (weather permitting) for a student-organized one day field trip and tour. The introductory design class, includes what you will need to know when considering incorporating natural materials into your building design and designing your naturally built home to have running water and sound plumbing. We will also look at options for out-buildings such as sheds and workshops. The building methods include techniques such as earth bag, rammed earth, tire construction, adobe, straw bale, and cob.

Check back here for any changes in description, dates and new additions to our work in progress. See Other Details for student additions and Mentor Consulting opportunities with Jan.
