Teaching Assistants (TA’s)
The Earth Masters community is designed with the “each one teach one” philosophy in mind. So, in addition to helping you learn, we want to help you learn how to share your new knowledge and skills with others. Each class will have a teaching assistant responsible for pre-class preparations and for helping the instructor during the class. If you have some experience with a course topic, or have a special interest in learning the material in depth, becoming a TA is a great way for sharing your skills, gaining valuable teaching and leadership experience, and working closely with an expert in your field of interest. The TA role is meant to help provide students with the tools they need to be able to teach the course material in the future – this is an important part of our sustainability training. We want to be teaching the teachers who will continue to spread these vital skills and knowledge in their own homes, communities, and the world! Our goal is to have 60% of our students on a path that includes teaching.
To indicate your TA interest
Please note on your Admission form and for every class when you pre-register (please, put the letters TA beside every class title, if applicable) where you would like to assist with organizing or teaching that class. The Teaching Assistant(s) will be involved with class research, as well as polling the registered students about their specific needs and desires for the course material. The Lead TA will often act as class Facilitator, once the class begins and throughout that particular course and supervise the involvement of the other class assistants. The Instructor (or a Barter Intern) will notify you if this is a role you are being asked to deliver.
